Crowns and Bridges
What is a crown?
Crowns are tooth shaped coverings that cover or “cap” a tooth structure. This lab-created dental product is permanently cemented over your natural tooth structure. Crowns need to be brushed and flossed routinely and treated with the same care as your other teeth.
Why would you need a crown?
When a tooth is badly broken, fractured, severely worn, decayed or a root canal has been performed, a dental crown is prescribed to strengthen the remaining tooth structure aiding you in maintaining a healthy mouth.
What types of crowns are there and will you need?
We will make a diagnosis for the best crown type to meet your personal needs. Some of the types of crowns offered are: all gold or metal, an all porcelain or a porcelain-to-gold crown. Veneers or bridges are a different procedure.
How is a crown made for you?
We will prepare your remaining tooth structure to receive the crown. We pay great attention to your bite and marginal fit, making sure the final crown will match the opposing teeth’s color, shade, shape, height. Digital impressions are taken and all information is electronically submitted to our lab. Your crown is manufactured there. A temporary crown is cemented until the permanent one is ready.
